Fragmented

2018

I am interested in how our earliest memories can inform how we approach certain topics later in life. This publication depicts how childhood memories can be fragmented and reassembled as “flashbulb” memories. Within those, it can be hard to distinguish what is real, and what has been told to you and reconstructed into your memory as your own. Butter is a symbol from my experiences with flashbulb memories. The texture of coffee grounds acts as a contrast to butter. The rough, grainy grounds are like memories that are fuzzy and hard to remember. The colors are faded like the images of long ago. Some photos are not crisp, shapes are made, and words are spliced, all akin to memories. I wanted to capture a moment in my life in a way that may elicit a response in the viewer to question their own memories too.
